Press Release
Dec.7, 2000
The Salton Sea
Authority Board bid farewell to two longtime members Wednesday (Dec. 6).
Stepping down were
Don Cox, who had served on the Authority board since its inception in
1993 and Tom Veysey, who served as Authority president this past year.
Both are concluding
their service on two of the Authority’s member agency boards. Cox did
not seek a fourth term on the Imperial Irrigation District Board and
Veysey opted not to run for a second term on the Imperial County Board
of Supervisors.
Both agencies will be
making new appointments to the Authority board.
“Don and Tom have
been giants on behalf of the Salton Sea Restoration project,” said
Authority Executive Director Tom Kirk. “Their contributions have been
enormous,” he said.
Cox, he said, “has
been the brains of the operation” since formation of the Salton Sea
Authority.
Kirk also said Veysey
has “been very helpful to the Authority in work on our behalf in
Washington D.C. and Sacramento.”
Norm Niver, President
of the West Shores Chamber of Commerce and a member of the Imperial
County Planning Commission also praised Veysey’s efforts. “He has
done a lot of good up here for the Salton Sea communities. We will miss
him.”
The Authority is a
joint powers authority consisting of the IID, the counties of Imperial
and Riverside and the Coachella Valley Water District.
The board is made up
of two elected board members from each of the agencies.
